Sybil Holmes was born and raised in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She later moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she attended St. Mary’s University. After college, she taught kindergarten and first grade in the public school system and continued her education at the University of Texas at San Antonio, earning a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership.
While working as a school administrator, Sybil met her husband, CAPT Bob Holmes, USN (Ret.). They married in 2003 and have three children. Throughout Bob’s Navy career, their family experienced numerous moves as well as eight deployments and patrols.
As a Navy spouse, Sybil continued working in education in a variety of roles, including teaching English as a Second Language, substitute teaching, test consulting, and middle school education. Her family’s Navy journey took them to communities across the United States and abroad before settling in Virginia Beach following Bob’s retirement after his command of Naval Air Station Oceana.
Sybil has worked with Virginia Beach City Public Schools as an English teacher at Princess Anne Middle School. She has also volunteered with numerous organizations, including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Wings Over America Scholarship Foundation, while remaining actively involved in her local community.
Drawing from her own experience as a Navy spouse and educator, Sybil is a strong advocate for military spouses, Sailors, and their families and is committed to supporting military families and their communities.
