Scholarships For Dependents of US Navy Aviation
Meet the military, professional, and community leaders helping guide
Wings Over America Scholarship Foundation and its mission for Navy aviation families.
For nearly four decades, Wings Over America Scholarship Foundation has stood beside Navy Aviation families as their children and spouses pursue education and build their futures.
Military service asks something of the entire family. Throughout more than 33 years in the United States Navy, I saw firsthand the moves, deployments, uncertainty, and sacrifices that families navigate in support of the mission. That experience makes WOASF's work deeply meaningful to me.
My wife, Christine, and I have also experienced the Foundation's impact personally. Our youngest son received a WOASF scholarship that helped him pursue his undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech. It reminded us that a scholarship represents more than financial support. It recognizes a student's effort, eases pressure on a family, and sends a powerful message: the Navy Aviation community continues to stand behind you.
As Chairman, I am proud to help steward an organization built by Navy Aviation families for Navy Aviation families. As WOASF approaches 40 years of service, we are honoring the people who built this Foundation while strengthening it for the generations who will need us next.
To our scholars, families, donors, partners, and volunteers, thank you for carrying this mission forward.
RDML Greg “Fence” Fenton, USN (Ret.)
Chairman, Board of Directors
Every scholarship begins with an application, but behind every application is a student with a story, a family that has experienced the unique life of the Navy community, and someone working hard toward what comes next.
That is what makes the work we do at Wings Over America Scholarship Foundation so meaningful to me.
As a Navy child, Navy spouse, former teacher, and mother of two children who grew up in a military family, I understand many of the experiences our families share. I also know from my years as a teacher how much it can mean when someone believes in a student and gives them an opportunity to move forward.
At WOASF, that opportunity is made possible by an incredible community. Our donors provide the resources that make scholarships possible. Families establish scholarships that honor the people and stories that are important to them. Corporate and nonprofit partners invest in our students. Volunteers give their time to carefully review applications. Together, we help Navy aviation children and spouses take the next step toward their futures.
Every year, I have the privilege of learning about students who want to become engineers, teachers, nurses, scientists, builders, leaders, and so much more. They want to serve their communities, solve problems, help others, and make a difference. I believe deeply in these students and in the opportunities education can provide them.
As the Foundation looks toward the future, I want us to continue reaching more Navy aviation families, building meaningful partnerships, and staying connected with the students and spouses we have the privilege of supporting. But most importantly, I want us to remain an organization our families can trust and a community that continues to believe in what is possible for them.
For me, this work will always come back to the students and families we serve. I know what it means to grow up as part of a Navy family, and I know what it means as a teacher to watch a student discover what might be possible for their future. Wings Over America Scholarship Foundation has brought those two parts of my life together in a way I never expected. I feel very fortunate to be part of this work, proud of the students we support, and thankful for the community that makes it all possible.
